Downtown transit center closed again

It hasn't been open very long, but the streamlined Long Beach Transit center downtown is now closed by renovations. New lighting and passenger benches will be installed as well as a public art installation. The transit center is expected to reopen in Spring 2011, and in the meantime, buses that usually stop there will be reassigned to other stops on First Street.

A Bus Ride to Beauty

Long Beach Transit has announced another summer of bus expeditions to many of the cultural landmarks of Southern California. The Museum Express program will run from June 24 to August 15. Round trip service on air conditioned buses costs $8. Registration forms on available on the Long Beach Transit website. Some of the beautiful destinations include:

Long Beach Transit Ups the Ante

To help make up for cuts in state funding, bus fares are being increased today. A regular fare is now $1.25. Well, at least it's easy to have the right change.

Travel High on the Hog -- Ride the Bus?

Peter Greenberg recommends taking the bus for trips under 500 miles. On top of beating planes and trains for cheap ticket prices, many have cell-phone reception, power outlets, wireless Internet access, videos, leather seats, and an on-board attendante with snacks and beverages. He mentions Megabus, Boltbus, Greyhound, Peter Pan. Online bus ticket brokers are BusJunction and GoToBus.

Long Beach Transit Puts a New Spin on New Year's Eve

Woohoo! On New Year's Eve from 6 pm to 2:30 am, you can ride the buses in Long Beach for free! What better way to while away the last few hours of 2009 than to be chauffeured around our fair city in a supersize Christmas red limousine. Most buses go downtown, so you can check out the festivities down there without paying for parking. Bravo, LBT.

Still worth it

I just read in LB Post that bus fares are going up from $.90 to $1.10 starting February 15. That’s an awkward amount to pay. I can just see people now turning to their fellow bus riders and saying, “I’ve got the buck, but, buddy, can you spare a dime?” It’s still worth the price as far as I’m concerned. Consider a LBT monthly pass (currently $50), which will give you incentive to hop aboard more often
