El Dorado Nature Center Goes Native

Native plants that is. This Saturday, November 13, the Nature Center will be selling plants native to Southern California and the Southwest US. These plants are drought tolerant and often have fragrant blooms that attract butterflies and birds. Sale begins at 9 am. Come early for the best selection.

Arts and Crafts at the Nature Center

El Dorado Nature Center will be holding a series of Artisan Craft Fairs this year--July 24, August 28, and September 25. They'll run from 10 am to 2 pm and admission is free. The unique items made by local artists make great gifts for friends and family.

Storytelling at El Dorado Nature Center

No campfire but plenty of delightful shivers as seven master storytellers gather for Liars, Thieves and Chocolate at El Dorado Nature Center to enchant listeners with their tales. The event begins at 7:30 pm on June 12 and will last about two hours with time for refreshments. Admission is $5, and parking is free.

El Dorado Nature Center Gets its Stream On

After months of restoration work, the man made stream at El Dorado Nature Center will be ready for its close-up at the ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday, March 20 at 10 am. The paths along the stream, which have been closed due to the construction, will also open up this weekend along with new bridges across the stream. Efforts were made to use sustainable techniques rather than hard surfaces such as concrete and to reinforce paths to avoid erosion and re-landscape with native plants.

Celebrate Tellebration

This Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the El Dorado Nature Center, Long Beach Storytellers will host their annual Tellebration. Adults and children are invited to listen to stories and share a few as well. A $5 donation is appreciated

Walk under the Oaks at El Dorado

This Saturday at El Dorado Nature Center from 10:30 to noon, there'll be a guided walk under the native oak trees. Then, Cindy Alvitre, a member of the Tongva tribe and a professor at CSULB, and Craig Torres will give a presentation on Tongva Food and Culture in the Nature Center classroom from 12:30 to 2 pm.

NIghtlife at El Dorado

The volunteers at the El Dorado Nature Center will keep the gates open late this Tuesday evening for a Nightlife Walk. The tour takes you off the beaten path in search of bats, owls, foxes, and other nocturnal critters. Bugs, turtles, and birds of every feather that have settled in the Nature Center's 100 acre wood will also be discussed. The tour costs $5 and runs from 7 to 9 pm. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a long sleeved jackets. Flashlights are not required but may come in handy
